We’re going “au naturale” to talk about how the multi-billion dollar world of beauty impacts us, our kids and our culture.
Phoebe Baker Hyde, a Brookline, MA native, who rejected cosmetics and went without hair styling, new makeup and even new clothes for an entire year. Phoebe says she feels more beautiful than ever and her book documenting the experience, The Beauty Experiment, is captivating women across the country.
“I was confusing self confidence with looking great.” -Phoebe Baker Hyde

Most women say that when they look dowdy or are not wearing makeup, they feel like they are taken less seriously. We wanted to find out if this is true, so we sent a woman out for a social experiment that involved asking strangers for directions or to borrow a cell phone. She showed two different faces to the world, one with makeup and one without, and the results weren’t pretty.
“I really saw how differently I was treated because of how I looked.” -Maureen Torraco
@katieshow Sooooo glad she said that. When u work in an industry that defines u by looks, you go along to keep your job.

The average woman spends a full week of every year “putting her face on,” as they say. That’s 168 hours of makeup and hair styling! Inspired by Phoebe Baker Hyde and her book, The Beauty Experiment, Jessie Knadler from Lexington, VA decided to ditch her security blanket of beauty.
“We’re pushing an ideal that’s completely unrealistic.” -Jessie Knadler
Is it possible to hold on to some of our beauty rituals without allowing the beauty industry to have too tight a grip on us? Morgen Schick, a former Ford model, an author and a makeup artist in New York City, says yes.
“Your friends…remind you, ‘You are so much more than that.’” -Morgen Schick
Bravo @katiecouric for doing a show sans makeup and discussing the ridiculous photoshopping of women in the media.

Two audience members agreed to get a more natural look with less makeup, getting a “Makeunder” instead of makeover. Morgen Schick shows us how we can look our best without breaking the bank.
“You do not need a full face of makeup.” -Morgen Schick
You don’t need makeup, designer clothes, etc. to feel great. You are beautiful just the way you are. Inspired by the @katieshow

“This is a contest about substance.” -Jill Herzig
It was a difficult decision to crown a winner in our own Katie Hot Husband Twitter Contest, and we took many things into consideration, least of all appearance. But by an overwhelming majority of votes, the winner of the Katie Hot Husband Twitter Contest is Dave Huffman!
“I think you may have created a monster.” -Dave Huffman
We had such an amazing time with @katieshow. Thank you for the trip to Jamaica. #HotHubbyWife
