Jeffrey Phillip shows Katie how to organize the mounds of photos and keepsakes that are flooding her home office and jammed in drawers. With his handy tips, now you can make your own memorabilia box at home!
Step 1: Take a heavy-duty storage box and, using a ruler, draw a rectangle for a slot at the top or side. Keep in mind, putting a lid on something helps prevent people from throwing items in it right away.
Step 2: Carefully cut out the rectangle using a box cutter or X-Acto knife.
Step 3: Decorate the box with some personal flair and label it with the month and year that you will begin using it.
Step 4: Photos, letters, tickets, special keepsakes: go ahead and start using the box to collect your precious memories!
Step 5: When the box is full, it’s time to purge/organize – and take a trip down memory lane! Remove the items that no longer hold as much significance and keep only the extra special ones – it will be like a treasure hunt! If more space is created during this process, continue using the box until it is full again and repeat this step.
Step 6: Once the box is completely full and edited, add the end month and year for easily identifiable storage and cataloging
TIP: You can also use a sturdy shoe box for this project! Simply wrap the lid and box separately with a favorite decorative wrapping paper to keep it looking neat.
