It seems to me that people in high profile positions often lose sight of the truth between right and wrong. And as the show today displayed, there are many leaders who have struggled with fidelity. Petraeus, Clinton, Weiner, Schwarzenegger and countless of other men have been publicly shamed after cheating on their wives.
Personally, I just don’t get it. I also don’t understand why someone would start a website devoted STRICTLY to helping married people cheat!! That is more than wrong, it’s almost immoral. The person I am referring to is Noel Biderman, the founder of a site catering to extra- marital affairs called “Ashley Madison.” He was on the show and is making money off of his site. The most shocking part is that he’s a married man with kids. I want to know what his wife talks about in the after- school pick-up line.
Dr. Phil also talked about his book and how to spot toxic people in our lives. I’ve got them. You’ve got them. You may be dealing with one now and you don’t know what to do with them. Or heck, you may not even have a clue that they are toxic to you.
In the end, toxic people may have won a battle, but over time you win the war.
“Don’t fear your enemies,” said Dr. Phil. “Fear your friends who flatter you.” Really? Dr. Phil calls them “BAITERs,” then compared them to pedophiles because of how they use flattery to weasel their way into your life. I couldn’t agree with him more. I’ve been there. I’ve had former friends and family members who have done that to me personally. They preyed on my vulnerabilities and only hung out with me to seem like the “good guy.” It’s definitely a hard pill to swallow when it happens to you. But as time goes by, so does the truth. In the end, toxic people may have won a battle, but over time you win the war.
So what was my biggest take away from the show?
Be your true self.
Don’t do things in your life that aren’t consistent with whom you really are. I’m a mother, wife, sister, and friend. I’m not perfect in any way but I’m proud of who I’ve become because of the ‘toxic’ people I’ve had to overcome.
Why do you think men cheat?
