Roll Out the Red Carpet!
Your Oscar party food and drinks are covered! Carson Kressley shares his expert advice on what to feed your fabulous guests on Sunday night!
- Guests will love a gourmet popcorn bar. Pop tons of popcorn, display in stylish containers & provide various seasonings that guests can sprinkle on. Try Cajun spices, curry, truffle salt or even sweet cocoa for a new twist on this cinema classic. The cute paper concession stand containers are available at most party supply stores!
- “Silver Linings Playbook” was one of my faves this season, not just because of that hot Bradley Cooper, but because it’s set in my almost-hometown! These Philly cheese steak sliders make for a hearty main course party food & they are really easy to prepare. Everyone wins!
- Celebrate just like the stars with a glam champagne cocktail. To keep with the red carpet theme, I made these with blood orange juice & frozen cherries. Then I add sweet vermouth, scotch and mix. Top with the bubbly. (Prosecco, the less expensive Italian cousin of champagne, works too!)
- A salute to “The Life of Pi” = individual dessert pies in assorted fillings & favors. I’m a big believer in making some things from scratch & buying some items to save time & money. These are store bought so easy as, umm, pie!
- Apparently ginger cookies were one of honest Abe’s favorite foods! We did a traditional baked Brie with cranberry & raisin chutney. Instead of boring crackers, we used Abe’s favorite-a ginger snap, to do the scooping.
- Macaroons are a fun treat inspired by “Les Miserables”! They are available online & in specialty grocery stores. In an homage to our gilded friend Oscar, I dusted them in edible gold powder! It sounds decadent but it’s sold in a small container for about $8-available at baking supply stores & online baking sites.
- Who doesn’t love the candy snacks available at the concession stand? Here’s a more glam version-just buy candy in bulk from the grocery store (the more old-fashioned & colorful the better) & display in pretty glass containers you already have. I used champagne glasses, julep cups & apothecary jars. Sweet!
- I gave southern staple hushpuppies a twist with another southern classic, pimento cheese. This is a fun, easy to make at home finger food inspired by “Beasts of the Southern Wild”!
